Privacy Policy
How New York Auto Rental handles your information — in plain English.
Last updated: May 29, 2026
1. Scope of this policy
This Privacy Policy explains how New York Auto Rental ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares and protects information when you visit newyorkautorental.com (the "Site"). It applies to the Site only and not to any third-party website you reach through our links — including our booking partners, whose own privacy policies govern their handling of your data. By using the Site you agree to this policy.
2. Who we are
New York Auto Rental is an independent car-rental comparison and referral site. We do not own vehicles, operate rental counters, take reservations, or process rental payments. When you choose a deal, you complete the booking on a partner's website, and your information is then handled under that partner's privacy policy. For privacy questions about the Site, contact us at hello@newyorkautorental.com.
3. Information we collect
We aim to collect as little as possible. Specifically:
Information you provide
If you email us or otherwise contact us, we receive your email address and whatever information you include in your message. We do not operate user accounts and do not ask you to register.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our hosting provider and analytics tool process limited technical data when you visit, which may include your IP address, browser and device type, referring page, the pages you view, and the approximate region derived from your IP. This is used in aggregate to keep the Site secure and understand traffic — see "Analytics" below.
Search inputs
The pickup location, dates and driver age you type into our search box are used only to build a pre-filled link to our booking partner. They are processed in your browser and passed to the partner when you click search; we do not store them on a server.
4. Cookies & similar technologies
Our own site is essentially cookieless. We use a privacy-friendly analytics tool (Vercel Web Analytics) that measures page views without using cookies, without storing your IP address, and without building cross-site profiles of you.
Affiliate attribution. When you click a link to a booking partner, that partner (e.g. Discover Cars, Booking.com/Rentalcars, Turo) may set its own cookies on its domain so that a resulting booking can be credited to us. These cookies are placed and controlled by the partner under its own policy, not by us, and do not give us access to your booking or payment details.
5. How we use information
- To operate, maintain and secure the Site.
- To understand aggregate traffic and improve our content and search experience.
- To respond to messages you send us.
- To detect, prevent and address fraud, abuse or technical issues.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making that has legal effects.
6. Legal bases (EEA/UK visitors)
If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR/UK GDPR: our legitimate interests in running and improving a secure website (balanced against your rights); your consent where required (for example, non-essential analytics where local law requires opt-in); and compliance with legal obligations. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests at any time (see "Your privacy rights").
7. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data only as follows:
- Service providers who run the Site on our behalf — our hosting and edge provider (Vercel) and our analytics tool — under contracts that limit their use of data.
- Booking partners, but only the search parameters you choose to send when you click through to them, plus our affiliate identifier so the referral is credited.
- Legal and safety: when required by law, to respond to lawful requests, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our users or the public.
- Business transfers: if the Site or its assets are acquired or merged, data may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics, a privacy-first product that reports aggregate metrics (such as page views and referrers) without cookies and without storing personal identifiers or your full IP address. It does not track you across other websites.
8. Affiliate partners & third-party links
The Site contains links to third-party websites, including booking partners with whom we have affiliate relationships (see our Affiliate Disclosure). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. Once you leave the Site, this Privacy Policy no longer applies — review the destination's own policy before providing information or completing a booking.
9. Data retention
We retain email correspondence only as long as needed to address your inquiry and for reasonable record-keeping. Aggregate analytics data is retained by our analytics provider for a limited period and is not tied to an identifiable individual. We do not maintain a database of visitor profiles.
10. Security
The Site is served entirely over HTTPS and hosted on a reputable, security-hardened platform. While no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, we take reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the limited data we handle.
11. International data transfers
We are based in the United States and our service providers may process data in the U.S. and other countries. Where we transfer personal data from the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses where required.
12. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any right, email hello@newyorkautorental.com; we will respond as required by applicable law and may need to verify your identity.
California (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used and shared, to request deletion or correction, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
EEA/UK (GDPR)
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe our processing infringes applicable law.
Global Privacy Control & "Do Not Track"
Because we do not track you across sites or sell your data, there is nothing to opt out of in that regard. We honor recognized browser privacy signals where legally required.
13. Children's privacy
The Site is intended for adults arranging car rentals and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be made prominent on this page. Your continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
15. Contact us
Questions, requests, or concerns about this policy or your data? Email us at hello@newyorkautorental.com and we will be glad to help.
This policy is provided for general informational purposes and does not constitute legal advice. Laws vary by jurisdiction; consider having it reviewed by a qualified attorney for your specific circumstances.
