# How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Car in NYC?

Daily, weekly and monthly rates — and what actually moves the price.

Car rental prices in New York swing widely with timing, location and vehicle class. Here are realistic averages to set expectations, and the levers that decide whether you pay a little or a lot.

## Average NYC rental prices

Rough averages for the New York area:

- Economy from around $40/day; cheapest rates often start near $34
- Medium car around $55/day; premium and SUV around $76/day
- A week works out around $480–$1,070 depending on class and timing
- A full month averages roughly $2,000–$2,300

## What drives the price up or down

Airport pickups add facility fees but have more inventory; city locations avoid those fees but can price higher per day. Summer weekends and holidays spike rates. Booking around two weeks ahead, and renting longer (weekly or monthly), usually lowers the per-day cost.
